Samarium cobalt magnets are high-performance rare earth permanent magnets made from an alloy of samarium (Sm) and cobalt (Co). They are second only to neodymium magnets in terms of magnetic strength, but they excel in environments where high temperature stability and corrosion resistance are critical.
Key Features:
- Excellent high-temperature performance (can operate above 250°C without significant loss of magnetism)
- Strong resistance to oxidation and corrosion compared to NdFeB
- High magnetic energy product (slightly lower than NdFeB, but still very strong)
- Superior resistance to demagnetization
- Ideal for harsh environments such as aerospace, military, automotive sensors, medical devices, turbines, and high-temperature motors
SmCo magnets are naturally more corrosion-resistant than NdFeB, so many applications use them without coating. However, coatings may still be applied for added protection or aesthetic purposes:

B) Nickel (Ni) Plating
